HARVEST TECHNOLOGY DEPLOYS 60 NSI UNITS TO FIVE-EYES DEFENCE CONTRACTOR

The deployment of 60 NSI (Nodestream™ Integrated device) units is a significant milestone in our ongoing engagement with prominent Five-Eyes defence customer, Guerrilla Technologies. 

The delivery of these units marks a pivotal moment in our project timeline and attests to the strong alignment between Harvest’s cutting-edge Nodestream™ technology and evolving requirements in the defence sector. The deployment of these NSI units is set to enhance the customer’s network and semi-autonomous field assets, capitalising on our technology’s ability to ensure reliable and ultra-secure communications. This is particularly vital in managing sensitive operations in remote locations.

Each NSI unit is engineered to perform in demanding environments, designed as a compact single board computer that excels in low power consumption, flexibility, and high-performance computing. Paired with the Nodestream™ software, these devices can transmit high-quality video, audio and control data on communication links with less than 100kbps bandwidth. Despite weighing only about 160g, the NSI boasts military-grade encryption, safeguarding critical data in transit without compromising on mobility or performance.

The dispatch of these NSI units, which have completed rigorous industry compliance testing as of December, is testament to Harvest Technology’s dedication to providing solutions that meet the strategic communication needs of defence sectors globally.

Changes at Harvest Technology Group Limited (Harvest) designed to accelerate our delivery of unique solutions to you.

With the upcoming release of our revolutionary AVRLive™ Cloud platform and the continued enhancement of our existing Nodestream™ product suite, we have recently reorganised our leadership and strengthened our balance sheet to accelerate our growth and provide solid foundations for sustained success – for our customers, our valued partners and our staff.

Ilario Faenza has joined the Group as CEO and a member of the Board, bringing his wealth of proven experience in the commercialisation of high-growth startup technology companies.

Several Harvest leaders have assumed new roles to ensure organisational continuity: Jeffery Sengelman, DSC, AM, CSC, will act as Executive Chair temporarily to oversee effective transition arrangements.

Long-time Harvest leaders Jamie (Jimmy) Dean and Brooke Edwards will take on new responsibilities as Sales and Marketing Director and Commercial Director, respectively. They will continue to work closely with our customers and partners.

January 24, 2023: 

We are pleased to confirm we have received both second and third orders for our Nodestream™ technology from our prominent Five-Eyes defence customer.  

These orders continue the deployment of our ultra-low bandwidth, secure Nodestream™ technology into the Customer’s network and semi-autonomous field assets, reinforcing its value in defence and battlespace applications.  

“The opportunity to work collaboratively and globally within the Five-Eyes defence network is very exciting for us and demonstrates a demand for the capabilities we offer,” said Harvest’s COO, Linda Shields.  

We are also pleased to confirm that following a very successful trial with a number of key stakeholders, the order for remote telemedicine kits from our European Union Defence Force customer has been received. The commissioning of the kits to its naval fleet will get underway this quarter.   

Additionally, the trial of Nodestream™ Integrated devices on drones for the Japanese Self-Defence Force was successful and very well received, resulting in equipment purchase and discussions of future orders.  

The utilisation of our technology in the defence sector is expected to grow into the future with defence forces deploying the platform across multiple operational theatres within their scope.

We are excited to welcome two new UK-based offshore services providers as customers this month, further expanding our influence in the offshore and energy sectors.   

Both companies will utilise Nodestream™ technology for remote situational awareness and maritime surveillance of offshore operations.   

The technology will enhance their visibility of assets on both projects and other operations and allow them to provide key stakeholders and clients with real-time access to the data.  

As with our other customers, the initial orders are expected to grow into more orders in the future following successful initial deployment.

Harvest Technology Group’s, Technical Sales Manager UK/Europe, Steve Moir presented at Topsides UK earlier this month discussing the potential of livestreaming and remote operations in driving operational efficiencies and meeting Net-Zero targets in a mature basin.

The energy sector is currently experiencing a significant digital transformation with an increasing trend towards remote operations driven by advancements in information and communications technology.

For remote operations to be successful, data from video and audio sources, IoT sensors, navigational and positioning data need to be accessible.

Global trends towards digitalisation are driving demand for dispersed data access and availability, which is challenging in remote environments with existing network limitations and increasing congestion.

Other challenges include latency, lack of synchronised data, and security concerns. However, some of the key drivers for change in the industry include automation and autonomy, contractual requirements and compliance, environmental and safety factors as well as improved situational awareness and support.

So how can operators achieve these goals? Implementing remote support and remote operations is a great place to start.

Remote support is often the first step towards remote operations; being the most cost-effective and least disruptive to implement. Technology can support operators by livestreaming video and two-way audio from remote locations to a central base for remote technical assistance, survey, inspection, or telehealth.

Remote operations is the control or management of operations from a remote location using technology for real-time monitoring. This can include live data acquisition, coordination of ongoing operations, and remote monitoring and control of assets themselves.

Remote operations is growing in significance in the energy sector for several key reasons:

• Safety and risk mitigation: remote operations allow personnel to monitor and control equipment and processes from a safe distance, minimising exposure to dangerous conditions.
• Operational and cost efficiencies: by reducing the need for on-site personnel and travel, companies can lower operational expenses including labour, transport, and travel costs.
• Asset monitoring and management: remote monitoring and control enable real-time data analysis and decision making, resulting in optimised drilling and production processes, reduced downtime, and increased operational efficiency.
• Environmental sustainability and compliance: the energy industry faces strict environmental regulations. Remote operations allow companies to monitor emissions, detect leaks and ensure compliance in real time reducing the risk of damage and fines. The use of technology also allows for reduced movement of people and vessels and the use of smaller assets, aiding in net-zero targets.
• Subject matter expert support: There is often a heavy reliance on experts who cannot always be onsite. Remote support applications enable experts to provide guidance, troubleshoot issues and make decisions without needing to be physically present at the site.

So where does livestreaming fit into all this? ​Livestreaming technology is a dynamic tool used to enable remote support and remote operations.​

Data is a fundamental asset for successful remote operations and the transmission of data from one point to another or to many enables organisations to make informed decisions, optimise processes and monitor assets remotely.  

​In the Energy Sector between now and 2028, the expanding need for intensive data usage and analytics is expected to grow from USD 8.37 billion in 2023 to USD 14.28 billion by 2028, at an annual growth rate of 11.28%.​

That said, there remain challenges facing the transfer of large amounts of data from remote assets and systems including limited bandwidth capacity, congested networks, complex data sets and types, disparate feed sources, data synchronisation, quality versus latency, and redundancy issues.
